Conceptual City Library | Nicosia, Cyprus

Developed as an academic public library proposal in Nicosia, Cyprus, this project explores the evolving role of the library as a civic learning space within the contemporary city. The design responds to an urban site shaped by nearby educational buildings, student movement, active street edges, vegetation, daylight orientation, and the potential growth of surrounding empty plots. The concept is based on the relationship between traditional printed knowledge and contemporary digital reading culture. A solid, grounded mass expresses permanence, memory, and the physical presence of books, while a lighter transparent volume reflects openness, accessibility, and the shift toward digital media. Between these contrasting elements, a central social void organizes circulation, daylight, and interaction, becoming the heart of the building.
